I really like the simple rules and draw-one/play-one mechanics, but with only 8 different role cards, Love Letter quickly feels repetitive after a few rounds. Also, for game that requires repeated shuffling several times per game, the card stock is not very sturdy. Love Letter is a good game for pubs/coffee shops, or as a filler on your lunch break. There is a lot of luck involved, and the only decision you ever make is which of the two cards in your hand would be to your advantage to play. It's okay for 2 players, but there is greater tension with 3 or 4. Collecting the "tokens of affection" in Love Letter can feel tedious after the first few rounds, especially with 2 players, since you're essentially doing the same thing at least a half-dozen times until a winner is determined. It's very travel-friendly, but if you want to play often I would recommend some basic card sleeves.

The Love Letter A Novel Cathleen Schine 9780312426989 Books Reviews

This was the most boring book I have ever read. The storyline dragged until I got to the 8th chapter then it got steamy and not my cup of tea.
I managed to finish this book but it was a struggle. Poorly written - profanity that added nothing to the storyline. She used a lot of "big" words, perhaps trying to impress me. She failed. I thought the story was disgusting.
I thought this would be a fun read instead it was filled with foul language that did nothing for the story. The preview was misleading - I did not finish this book - waste of money.
Sleezy.
This book really tries too hard. I read through the first several chapters, and was so bored with it, I accidentally left it on a plane. Now I have to buy a copy to replace my library's, although I do not wish this book on anyone. There are better novels out there worthy of your time & money. Maybe the end gets better, but I don't think you should have to suffer through the first part of a book just for a happy ending.
Wonderful, heartfelt emotionally involved story with great story line. A bit on the fairy tale side since I doubt anything like this would happen in our existence, but it could somewhere, between the right people, and that feeling of success is evoked here.
Have read it several times from the library and decided time to purchase my own copy.

DVD is good too only seem a tad different from the characters I envisioned reading in the book ~ albeit that probably happens more times than not.
This is a very sweet book and a must-read for middle-aged women, especially if they are single. I appreciate Helen's contrary nature and her seemingly self-destructive impulses. I also appreciate her hesitation to take on her venerable family members. And I love the people who populate her bookstore (Johnny is quite believable). My only complaint - and a very real one - is that this plot droops and drags in places.
