Wounded Animals Whistleblower Trilogy Volume 1 Jim Heskett Books

Mysteries and thrillers are my favorite sorts of books to read and I am always searching for new and talented writers to get me hooked. I have definitely found a hidden gem with author Jim Heskett and his "Wounded Animals" was an awesome read from start to finish. The story of Tucker, who works for a tech firm and gets an ominous warning one night in a bar. He doesn't heed it and his pregnant wife, Grace, goes missing and a dead co-worker is left in his bathtub. What follows is a thrilling and suspenseful mystery that was both entertaining and surprisingly humorous. Excellent writing here.

Wounded Animals Whistleblower Trilogy Volume 1 Jim Heskett Books Reviews

This the the amazing story of a relatively average IT guy, Tucker Candle. His job is set to end in a couple months and his wife is six months pregnant with their first child.. One night, a stranger in a bar cautions him not to take the business trip to Dallas that the stranger tells him he will be offered the next day. Sure enough, Tucker IS offered a business trip to Dallas the next day at work, or more accurately, commanded to go. Gone for less than 2 days, Tucker gets home to find his wife missing and a company employee murdered in his bathroom. The writing style is relaxed, but literate, the story is clever and original. As an added bonus, the author has apparently proofread his work no typos, grammar errors, mis-used words, non sequiturs, etc. Makes me want to read everything this guy has written!
"Wounded Animals" was a blast. I stumbled upon it by accident, checked out the sample chapter, and I was hooked. This author knows how to write cliff-hanger chapters that keep you reading. Great character development. Great dialogue. The settings are interesting - it partially takes place in the Dallas/Fort Worth area where I live and he's got the details down right. It has a lot of great humor and sarcasm too. And action! Almost forgot, it has some very cool action scenes.

With that said, there are several scenes of violence, some graphic (but quick). There is some harsh language, but it's not overly done - it's used appropriately. With that said, I do not recommend this book for kids.

This book is part of a series and I like how he still gave it a satisfying conclusion. This book would make for a fantastic movie. The book comes with a free sample of the follow-on book at the end and it's got the same writing style that leaves you asking, "What's going to happen next?"

Summary If you want a real page-turner with an intriguing story and interesting characters, you should try this book.
I read a lot of books in the thriller genre and enjoy most of them, but this was an exception. I understand that this is book one of a trilogy, but a fiction SERIES is not meant to be a SERIALIZATION. When a book combines mystery, tension, multiple murders, an attempted frame-up and a kidnapping, yet reaches the end sentence with no semblance of explanation about why all these things happened, it seems like an unfinished story. Readers are told to read the next book in the series, which smacks of extortion. A series of books are meant to carry a story forward, but each book should also be able to stand alone on its own merits and leave the reader satisfied on the last page, not feeling let down. That feeling of satisfaction, combined with curiosity about where the continuation of the story will take the characters next is why I would want to read book two and book three. Instead of being satisfied with this book, I felt cheated. There was no coherence to the plot, no denouement with resolutions and explanations. It left me feeling as though the author's main goal with this book was to coerce readers into reading the next one. This book will be the only one by Heskett that I read, and it was a waste of my time.
Ever read a book you didn't expect to love, and then reached the end and went, "Holy crap!"? I'm not big on the mystery. Probably because I hate surprises. This one though.... It has a noir feel to it, and, even at the end, you have questions. You and Candle are left in exactly the same place.

That's what it is about this book. This guy, you get trapped in this spiral with him. He's beautifully average. He reacts to each plot movement exactly as we would, not like some Hollywood hero who suddenly becomes good at evasion of the enemy. He just wants his wife back, and the rest of it can go to the devil. At times, he goes home when that's probably the first place they'll look. He bumbles his way through things he doesn't understand until this magical point where he's just had enough. It's an amazing transition.

Though it may seem like a cliffhanger novel, I assure you there is a satisfying ending and plenty of mystery left for the next book. Cliffhangers are not my cup of tea, and there was no cliffhanger here, I can't wait to find out Why in the next book. At the end, you're left wondering where the normal ends and the mystical begins, or if it was ever really there in the first place. Just a great place to end a story. Go get this one.
This is part one in what I would describe as an action/suspense trilogy. It is heavy in both action and suspense. I had a hard time putting it down. In fact, I wouldn’t have stopped reading if my schedule had allowed me more freedom. The unbelievably unique and interesting plot and characters grabbed me from the first word.

This is the story Tucker Candle is a young employee of a tech firm. He meets an unusual man at a bar, Kareem. This unleashes a series of catastrophic events

His wife, Grace, disappears.
The dark side of his co-workers is revealed.
An acquaintance from his company shows up dead in Candle’s own bathtub.

The reader can’t help but question the meaning and origin of events. Also, we wonder what where everything is leading and how it will end.
Congratulations to Mr. Heskett on his ability to craft a gripping, alternative world to our everyday existence! This is a good choice to read for the sole purpose of entertainment.
