Sandcastles A Novel Luanne Rice Books
I read Luanne Rice's book on my trip to Mexico over Thanksgiving with my family. I always bring one of her books (so many!!) with me on my trips since she is my favorite author in the whole wide world. Sandcastles was one that of the few I had not read and quickly devoured it. The pace of the book was like a page turner and one where you instantly felt connected to Honor's family. Her love for her husband and her daughters. Full of mystery, love stories and a bit of suspense, I am always surprised by how well Luanne Rice can write in teenagers that ring so true. The outcome is a twist and you will be happy with the ending.. The perfect read for anywhere really. But a beach read is what comes to mind with this beautiful alluring cover. 5 stars! Sandcastles A Novel Luanne Rice Books Reviews
Even though I am an avid reader, I am always hesitant to review books because, like art, I feel literature is a matter of personal taste but I had to express my disappointment in this book.
Typically, I devour 2 to 3 books per week so I think the fact it took me at least 2 weeks just to get through the first 166 pages of Sandcastles says a lot. Without a doubt, this was the most boring book I think I have ever read...or attempted to read. It was a struggle to get through more than 5 or 6 pages in one sitting. I repeatedly fell asleep or found my mind wandering, thinking of other more *fun* activities I could be doing ... like cleaning the bathroom. I just could not develop any affection for the characters or interest in the story, at all. (Perhaps if I was of Irish Catholic decent I would have felt differently?)
It is very, very rare--almost unheard of-- for me not finish a book, even if I don't particularly love it. Being an optimist, I am always hopeful a book that starts off slow will get better and I'll end up getting something out of it so, 99.9% of the time, I stick with a book to the end. However, with Sandcastles, I realized that instead of looking forward to free time when I could indulge in my favorite past time, reading, I was actually DREADING it. I finally decided to abandon this book midway (page 166) so I could move on to another that I will, no doubt, enjoy a heck of a lot more. If they still made phone books, I think reading one would be more entertaining to me than Sandcastles was.
Fantastic as always
Love and family are the most important things in life and this story makes you realize it more and more.
I had read the black hall hubbards point series and enjoyed it, this book just added to the stories I found there.
I found this book enthraling. Best I have read in a long time. Every character was alive.
The fact that I am Irish Catholic might have influenced me.
I felt the book "Sandcastles" was just in "the middle of the road" falling more to the down side. You can see by my vote of 3 stars on this review. To me it had no intense drama or plot. It just seemed too repetitous and predictable.
I enjoyed learning history of Ireland.
The book is filled with detail imagery of Dublin Ireland and Connecticut, across the Atlantic.
Luanne Rice's books always have depth in her stories.
